Trachyphyllia (Open Brain Coral )

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

Hello everyone, the coral right smack dab in the middle of the tank is a Trachyphyllia. This coral came from Gaia Live; they have had this coral in their collection for a few years and they have lent it to us so that we could share it with you all. Trachyphyllia corals are classified as Large Polyp Stony corals. The Coral you see here is one coral. It is a singular head of coral with many mouths. These corals like low water movement and low-to-moderate light. We have this one placed on the bottom of our tank where it gets a medium light and low water movement. These corals exhibit a really cool feeding response. They have feeding tentacles that come out when food is present. You can see this in the middle picture blow. Trachyphyllia's are one of the most colorful corals. Let us know in the comment section which one is your favorite.
